Welkom bij deze tutorial! Ik ben Silerna en ik zal je laten zien hoe je een Chibi lichaam maakt!
Volg mij stap voor stap en je zal zien dat jij dit ook met gemak kan! Je hoeft geen professioneel kunstenaar of tekenaar te zijn om Anime te kunnen tekenen. Je kan elk type software gebruiken die je maar wilt voor deze tutorial zolang er maar teken tools in zitten. Ik gebruik Procreate voor Appleapparaten. Je kan deze tutorial ook gewoon volgen met pen en papier!
Een kleine introductie over Procreate.
Procreate is één van de vele applicaties speciaal ontworpen voor kunstenaars met wat meer eisen. Het is ontworpen om te tekenen zodat het lijkt alsof men op papier schetst, niks is minder waar. Procreate is met zijn vele tools, verschillende filters en meer kan je je lol niet op met deze app!
Iedereen heeft zijn eigen manier om personages te tekenen. Chibi staat voor klein en dus moet alles compact en KLEIN zijn! Dat niet alleen, alles moet je overdrijven! Emoties zijn over de top! Het hoofd is veel te groot en het lichaam is ieniemini! Kortom de charme van een chibi!
Stap 1
De gouden regel voor chibi’s is het volgende: de totale (hoofd + lichaam) Chibi moet twee hoofden (ik meet met het Chibi hoofd als afmeting) en een kwart hoofd zijn. Is dat in orde, dan is je Chibi ook qua proporties in orde!
Laten we beginnen met de pose en wie je gaat maken Hoe moet je personage gaan staan of zitten? Wordt het origineel personage of misschien Fanart?
Laten we dat allemaal gaan aanwijzen met een simpele ‘stickman’. Je kent ze vast wel, mannetjes die stokjes voor benen en armen hebben en rondjes voor de gewrichten.
Werk je met software zoals Photoshop, Clip Studio of wat anders dan Paint? Maak elke stap dan op een nieuwe laag! Zo voorkom je dat je alles moet uitgummen als je een foutje maakt. Als je op papier werkt, maak je stickman dan met lichte potlood lijnen. Uiteindelijk moet de stickman weg en niemand houdt dan lijnen die altijd zichtbaar blijven.
Doordat je de gewrichten met rondjes aanwijst kan je makkelijk dingen laten ‘buigen’. Een grote ronde cirkel als hoofd moet boven op het lichaam geplakt worden. Meeste chibi’s hebben geen nek, ergens wel vreemd vind je niet?
Stap 2
Je stokjesman moet natuurlijk niet zo blijven. Je moet hem nu echt van armen en benen gaan voorzien, een hoofd geven met ogen, een mond …niet alle chibi’s hebben een neus 🙄. En vergeet vooral de handjes en voetjes niet!
Volg de lijnen van je Stockman om er een lichaam van te maken. Het hoeft niet perfect te zijn, het is desnoods de schets! Zeker als heel veel delen bedekt worden met kleding. Bij chibi’s hoeft de kleding niet super gedetailleerd te zijn. Hier en daar een vouw en laat het simpel. Het ontwerp echter kan je zo gedetailleerd maken als je wilt.
Het ziet er nog niet echt charmant uit he?
Stap 3
Laten we hem een outfit geven. Ik heb gekozen voor Chikage Kazama, Yasumi’s favoriete personage. Hij draagt kleding uit het oude Japan, vrijwel is het hele lichaam is bedekt op de voeten en handen.
Meestal geef je het lichaam meer vorm als je de kleding gaat maken.
Stap 4
Nu het lichaam vrijwel af is. Moet je poppetje wel een gezicht hebben. Ook daar zijn weer wat regeltjes voor. Kijk bijvoorbeeld naar je eigen gezicht. Ogen en oren altijd op één lijn. Maak een middenlijn voor de neus, maar niet als je die achterwege wilt laten. Niet alle chibi’s hebben een neus, maar de mond is echt verplicht. Hoe moet hij anders eten?!
En dan is hij af! Goed gedaan!

This time, it won’t be a landscape or something about Procreate. But something else! I hope you are just as excited as I am!
We’re going to make a Chibi! As a big Anime-Style fan, I also want to share tutorials like this. For this tutorial, you can use any type of media that you desire! Use pen and paper, any type of drawing app on your computer, your tablet or smartphone! I’ll be using the software Procreate for Appledevices.
A short introduction about Procreate.
Procreate is one of the most powerful painting apps designed for Apple devices. It is designed to make drawing on tablets feel like drawing on paper. And I can tell you, they aren’t wrong! It is awesome to draw with this app, with its variety of brushes, blending modes, supported pens you can use while drawing and so many more.
Chibi is the Japanese word for Small. And chibi’s are very small version of your characters! Their small bodies, giant heads and overdramatized emotions make them adorable ☺️.
Let’s begin, shall we?
Step 1
Decide who you are going to draw: fan art or original characters? And how should your character pose? Sitting or standing? Fighting pose?
When drawing anime characters, you can easily find out how tall your characters must be with the so-called ‘head-measure’ system. For chibi’s we use this system too. The head of your character is the measure we use. Chibi’s are always 2 and a quarter head tall! Not smaller, not bigger :). If you follow this golden rule, then the proportions are just fine!
When you have decided who you are going to draw, then let’s start with a ‘stick man’. You can make the stick man do any pose. Draw circles for the joints such as knees and elbows. Draw small squares for the hands and feet and a big circle for the head.
Are you working with photoshop or any software that works with layers, be sure to make each step on a separate layer! This way you will avoid mistakes. Chibi’s often do not have a neck (strangely enough) but of course you can draw one if you like!
Once done with your stick man, let’s continue to the next step.
Step 2
Of course, a stick man isn’t really a body yet. Follow the outer lines of the stick man to make a sketch of the body: draw the feet, hands, legs and arms. It doesn’t have to be perfect, since you have to cover parts of the body with clothing. Once we do that, we’re going to refine the body as well.
After all, it’s just a sketch!
If you are wondering what brushes I use on Procreate for lining and sketching. I work with the 6B pencil for sketching (and the stickman) and the Studio pen for the final lines. What is your Chibi going to wear? Does he have a lot of hair too? We will draw all that in the next step.
Step 3
I decided to draw Chikage Kazama from Hakuouki, my best friend’s favorite character :). His clothing is from ancient Japan, so most of his tiny body is covered with a kimono except for his feet. There he will wear traditional slippers.
Clothing is more loose around the body, so do not go straight over the body lines. On chibi’s they aren’t super detailed either, so do not make a lot of wrinkles and details.
Step 4
Once the body is nearly done, we have to give our chibi hair and a face of course. Ears and eyes are always on the same height, take a look at your face in a mirror for example 😉. Not all chibi’s have a nose, but you can always add one if you prefer that. The mouth is located on the same middle line below the nose. Give the fella some hair!
And there we got our chibi!
